conference 2010 : Dharma in Motion
More than three hundred Buddhist women are expected to gather in Chicago this May 1st 2010 to participate in the Fifth Annual Buddhist Women’s Conference sponsored by the Buddhist Council of the Midwest.
The all-day conference, "
Dharma in Motion ", will offer an opportunity for Buddhists - both lay and ordained - to share our experiences as women who engage with the "Dharma" (teachings of Buddha), to deepen our spiritual lives, and to discuss the dharma and it’s action in our lives. It will also offer those interested in Buddhism a chance to meet women practitioners and learn about Buddhism.

Yoga Body, Buddha Mind
Cyndi Lee, founder of OM yoga and the author of
Yoga Body, Buddha Mind, will prepare us for our rich and multifaceted day in her keynote address. Cyndi will draw on her experience as a yogini, Buddhist practitioner and yoga teacher to offer fresh ways of experiencing the connection between body and mind, movement and stillness, stability and impermanence.
Practices and Perspectives
This year’s theme,
Dharma in Motion, offers a wide array of workshops that range from scholarly, to practical, to just plain fun. From
Yoga to
Hula,
Zen Archery to the
Zen of Knitting,
Embodying Social Change to
Living Green,
Dynamic Chant to
Living Ch’an,
Tai Chi to the
Dance of the 21 Praises of Tara,
the interactive workshops promise to keep everyone moving, inside and out.
In addition, two panel-structured workshops may be of particular interest to those new to Buddhism or from other faith traditions:
Introduction to Buddhism and
Interfaith Panel: Spirituality in Action.
Sangha Connections
One of the best aspects of the Conference is being surrounded by hundreds of women practitioners (and male allies) from around the world and learning from one another. In this nourishing and non-andocentric environment, we develop connections that support Buddhist practice, scholarship and evolving history. We weave threads that last well past the end of the Conference day, creating a worldwide sangha (community). Each of our paths is enriched and we carry knowledge, wisdom and fresh perspectives back to our home practice sanghas.
